A power bank is a portable battery designed to charge electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, earbuds, and other gadgets, when a standard power outlet is unavailable. It serves as an external power source that you can carry anywhere, making it particularly useful for travel, outdoor activities, or emergencies.

How Does a Power Bank Work?

  1. Charging the Power Bank:
    • A power bank contains a rechargeable lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery.
    • You charge it by connecting it to a power outlet or a USB port using a charging cable.
  2. Storing Energy:
    • During charging, the power bank stores electrical energy in its internal battery.
    • The capacity of a power bank is measured in milliampere-hours (mAh), which indicates how much energy it can store.
  3. Discharging to Charge Devices:
    • When your device’s battery runs low, you connect it to the power bank using a compatible cable (or wirelessly for supported models).
    • The power bank transfers stored energy to your device, recharging its battery.
  4. Conversion of Power:
    • A power bank often includes a built-in circuit to convert its battery voltage (typically 3.7V) to match the device’s requirements (usually 5V for USB charging).
  5. Safety Features:
    • Most modern power banks have safety mechanisms, such as overcharge protection, short-circuit protection, and temperature regulation, to prevent damage to both the power bank and connected devices.

By acting as a mobile source of energy, a power bank ensures that your devices remain functional throughout the day, even when you’re far from a power outlet.
